The Lubavitch Yeshiva in Montreal captured the essence of the holiday of Shavuot, when we commemorate the giving of the Torah on Mount Sinai, in the form of a performance by the third and fifth grades.
It was organized by grade five teacher, Rabbi Myhill and third grade teacher Rabbi Yarmush, as well, as a part of a new leadership and social skills program, Vice Principal of the yeshiva, Rabbi Barak Hetsroni, worked with the children to ensure a seamless performance.
The Talmidim researched the holiday and created the script which included pshat, midrashim and Chasidic quotes. They then collaborated on the model of Mount Sinai with flowers decorating the mountain. Some of the students’ mothers volunteered their time to help with the arts and crafts.
“It was a great joy teaming up with the Talmidim to put together a show celebrating such an important time,” said Rabbi Hetsroni. “The children worked very hard and were very excited to show their talents to their parents and the rest of the school. And more importantly, they brought the script to life.”
The show was a masterpiece presented to over 300 people in small ensembles.
Each group came in at different times, starting from the CPE all the way to the sixth grade. The Talmidim performed skillfully in front of the audience.
During the play, some of the Talmidim recited their lines individually, while others spoke with another student or in a group. Some Talmidim gathered and performed their part as a play. At the end of this special production, 10 commandments was enacted beautifully and was really brought to life by the Talmidim. The Talmidim were pre-recorded and their voices were put together with sound, light and smoke effect to illustrate the giving of the 10 commandments.
It was a proud moment for everyone at the yeshiva, seeing the smiling faces of all the Talmidim who took part in this memorable experience.
A huge yashar koiach to Rabbi Hetsroni, Rabbi Myhill, Rabbi Yarmush and all the boys of kita gimel and hey who worked so hard to present this incredibly professional performance! It was thrilling to watch the preparations, especially witnessing our son transformed into a boy who was EXCITED to go to yeshiva every morning! My cheesecake and blintze preps took on a whole new perspective after literally feeling as though I had personally been at Har Sinai. A powerful and slick performance. Everyone involved should be very proud. May this be just a taste of the new and fresh chinuch… Read more »
