Rabbi Chaim Ashkenasi, Rav of the Lubavitch community in Tel Aviv and a Mashpia for many bochurim over the years, passed away Sunday, 12 Nissan 5770.
He was 61.
A member of one of the respected Chabad families in Israel, he served as the Mashpia and Magid Shiur in the Yeshiva Ketana Tomchei Temimim in Lod, and in recent years in the Yeshiva in Ohr Yehuda.
His siblings are Rabbi Mordechai Shmuel Ashkenasi, Rav of Kfar Chabad, Mrs. Malka Wilschansky of Tzfas and Mrs. Esther Twersky of Crown Heights.
He is survived by his wife Beruria and their children Leah Halperin – Krayot, Chani Cohen – Netanya, Nechama Kedem – Lod, Menachem Mendel Ashkenasi – Kfar Chabad, Meir Ashkenasi – Kiryat Malachi, Yisroel Ashkenasi and Eliezer Ashkenasi – Tzfas, Libi Trauger – Rechovot, Racheli, Schneur and Yossi.
At the funeral, his son-in-law Rabbi Shlomo Halperin, a Magid Shiur in the Chabad Yeshiva in Tzfas, was appointed as his replacement in Tel Aviv.
