Rabbi Yosef Munitz, Rosh Yeshiva of Mesivta Menachem in Buffalo, is opening a new Beis Medrash which will aim to be more accommodating for bochurim.
Built on his experience of running a Mesivta for close to 15 years, the ‘zal’ will maintain the balance of a rigorous learning curriculum and farbrengens alongside positive reinforcements.
Bochurim will have supervised WiFi internet connection during breaks, weekly trips to a local gym and pool. Those excelling in studies and behavior will be taken to the nearby Niagara Falls, paintball shooting and even skiing.
Rabbi Mendel Munitz, the Rosh Yeshiva’s son who currently manages the Mesivta, said such a setting has been in demand for a while now.
“Parents are looking for a Yeshiva, while mainstream, that still offers flexibility and lots of TLC,” he said. “There are Mesivtas that offer that approach but when you reach the age of Zal, your options are limited.”
He said that there is are bochurim who “need a yeshiva that is creative and exciting. A welcoming place, flexible enough so that a bochur will be comfortable, but with standards that parents can support.”
Aside from the regular studies of Gemara, time will be designated each day for learning halachos in preparation for rabbinical ordination which Chabad bochurim customarily complete before marriage.
The class will focus on the source of various halachos and introduce the commentators Machaber and Rama on the laws of Basar Vcholov and Taruvos.
As an added incentive, bochurim who pass this course will receive a discount voucher to OnlineSmicha.com, a virtual rabbinical studies institute headed by Rabbi Nachman Wilhelm of Minnesota.
The yeshiva gedola zal will also offer extra curricular courses in budgeting and finances by Professor Eli Wallen and defense Krav Maga techniques class by Dr. David Kurss.
Rabbi Munitz points out the location of the Yeshiva, nestled in the safe, beautiful suburbs of Buffalo in New York, saying the pastoral scene is sure to make a strong impression and be a welcoming option for parents and their sons.
Wow Amazing News!!! I Studied at Mesivta Menachem and was not from the most “Chasidish” and that’s what drew me in. I spent 2 years there and had an amazing time and accomplished a lot in both learning and growing as a person. I won’t bore you with all the details of how they care for their students, and how they take care of them like their own children. How they respect each individual “Bochur” or how they spend enormous amounts of time discussing each of their individual goals sometimes until the wee hours of the morning. What I do… Read more »

The Munitz’s do amazing work!!

I like that straight talk. To the point.
We can all learn from Montreals chinuch.
To Rabbi Munitz and the whole Munitz family!
Hey! Don’t hate on maple road!
This sounds like the perfect balanced program that our son will benefit from. Is there a link for filling out an application?
This is amazing news! Our boys have needed this for so long!
The change to the Yeshivah is that it will become for ZAL age bochurim. In addition it will serve for the great Bochurim that dont do well or cant survive in the BIG/Enormous zal environment. The yeshivah – as it has been when Rabbi Gurary’s wife passed away and he davened there every day with a minyan and allowed OT bochurim to come there on Shlichus – is with the blessings of Rabbi Nosson Gurary. So now look around you and tell those Gems that deserve a personalized approach to sign up for next year!!
Wondering what pastoral scene occurs on Maple Road…
You should take another look at the psak and not take things out of context
Lubavitch is finally heading in the right direction! It’s about time that ALL our Yeshivos offer various different options -within Torah- of what to learn. This way, a Bochur comes to yeshiva knowing that he plans on learning Kach v’kach Simonim in s”a, kach v’kach blat gemoro, a specific hemshech, vchulu vchulu. The (main/predominant) reason why bochurim come out of a year or years of Zal having learnt virtually NOTHING, is because they came there to learn NOTHING, they came cuz it’s a “good Yeshiva”, not because of what they LEARN in that yeshiva!! The reason why most Bochurim coming… Read more »
I believe they have offered smicha for a few years now.
i loved this yeshivah!
I loved going to Mesivta Menachem, the Munitzs are caring and dedicated. The chayas and hiskashrus to the Rebbe is something that remains with me many years later as a full time shliach.
You look awesome!
will this yehsivah be under the auspices of chabad of buffalo (rabbi gurary)?
How is it different from the past few years? what changes did you make to the yeshiva. is it aimed at the same type of boys that have been coming?
Finally. Bochurim have needed this for a long time. Congralutions for taking the initiative!!! Kol hakavod!!
i have been waiting a long time for such a program for zal bocherim, now bochurim dont need to wait till 21 to start smicha and only when they finish can they start dating. Now they can be done smicha at age 20 and get married right away like the rabonim have recently paskend to get married at 20.
WOW this is awesome
