So what does a visit from the U.S. President cost a foreign country? If you are Israel the answer is some land.
Israeli daily Maariv reports that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is considering a significant package of gestures to the Palestinians ahead of the visit next month.
Netanyahu has openly supported Republican Mitt Romney in the 2012 Presidential elections and sources feel President Barack Obama will play it tough during the visit.
“Obama has made it clear to Netanyahu that his visit is not about photo-ops, but the business of Iran and a Palestinian state,” a source in Netanyahu’s office told World Tribune.
Yori Yanover, citing the report in the Jewish Press, writes that Obama has demanded a timetable for an Israeli withdrawal from Judea and Samaria.
The concessions that are being considered:
1. Transfer of land of access roads, near the new Palestinian city of Rawabi, to full Palestinian control.
2. Another road that would be turned over to full Palestinian control serves the industrial park outside Tulkarm.
3. An additional gesture under review is the approval of master plans for 10 illegal Palestinian settlements in the Israeli-controlled Area C.
4. Release of a significant number of Fatah prisoners, arrested before the signing of the Oslo Accords.
5. Transfer of light ammunition to the Palestinian security forces.
