Fruma Tarshish of Crown Heights is the people’s choice as winner of the COLlive Purim Costume Contest which has generated much attention on the internet and social networking websites.
Dressed as a giraffe, the infant Tarshish received an average approval rating of 4.08 from COLlive fans by Friday night, March 13, when the contest officially ended (votes kept coming in since).
Her runner-ups closed in closely: Mendel Taichman of Crown Heights at an average of 4.05, Mendel G. from Toronto, Ontario, with 4.02; and the Kleyman family of Buffalo, NY, with 4.01.
Tarshish will be awarded a $100 gift card at the international toy store chain Toys “R” Us.
During the contest, mass emails were sent out by contenders urging their friends to log on COLlive and vote them as favorite. Some have even requested it on their Facebook status.
Tarshish’s family was one of them. “The family spread the word,” the winner’s mother, Mrs. Breindy Tarshish told COLlive upon hearing the good news.
“I called my family and my neices to ask their friends to vote and I also put it on my Facebook status,” Tarshish said, adding that today (Sunday) is her daughter’s 1 year-old birthday. “I would like to thank everyone for helping out.”
PELLIN’S PICK
The second winner of the contest is Lazer Lazaroff of College Station, TX, dressed as a Jewish robot. He was the choice of Mendy Pellin, star of the COLlive Purim Show.
Lazaroff will be awarded with a $50 gift card to Judaica World book and gift store in Crown Heights.
Explaining his pick, Pellin said: “Lazer deserves to win for the amount of creative work making the costume. But more importantly, the mental anguish (noticeable in his eyes) of walking around like that all day (in a non-Crown Heights environment). Many Shluchim are forced to get creative without the luxury of having Zakon’s down the block.”
Pellin asked to add ‘of special mention’ names:
1. The ‘controversial Shliach to Mars’ (who gives Canada the right to send up Shluchim?) with his Shpy friend.
2. Sara Citron for her unique perspective of Hillary Clinton.
3. Rochele Swed who brought the purim meal wherever she went (when do you bentch?)
4. And last, but not least, Hinda Pellin… Yum! (Yes, it was her in the Purim video).
