Mr. Yitzchok Yosef Lew, a resident of Brooklyn’s Boro Park neighborhood who has many personal ties to Lubavitch, passed away on Tuesday, 5 Adar 5772.
He was 77.
Lew himself was not known in Chabad circles, yet almost everyone has either heard of or met one of his many Lubavitcher family members. In fact, his nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews account to 100 people (over 20 of whom are Shluchim).
Retired for many years, people who know Lew said he was “a big baal chesed with a heart of gold.” He merited to speak with the Rebbe at yechidus- private audience and he was in Crown Heights this past Friday for his great-great nephew’s bris.
The Niftar is survived by his siblings: Mrs. Sarah Bleich – Boro Park/Jerusalem, Mrs. Itty Mendelsohn – Brooklyn, Mrs. Ruchi Zukerman – Lakewood, Rabbi Shmuel Lew – a senior Chabad Shliach and educator in London, UK, Rebbetzin Mindy Feller – the Chabad Shlucha in S. Paul, MN, R’ Chaim Lew – Brooklyn and R’ Luzi Lew – Lakewood.
The Levaya took place on Tuesday at Shomrei Hachomos in Boro Park.

The article says “his nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews account to 100 people” when in fact 100 is only his Lubavitcher relatives.
In total he has over 1,000 nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews!!
a brilliant, funny man with the kindest of hearts! you will be sorely missed!
The picture posted was taken only a couple of hours before he passed away, at the bris of his great nephew in Crown Heights. Yehi Zichro brocha!
