Yehoshua Berkowitz, whose family is Lubavitch, suddenly passed away last Thursday night at the age of 62.
Berkowitz, who grew up in Borough Park, would often visit Lubavitch World Headquarters in Crown Heights to attend Farbtengens of the Lubavitcher Rebbe.
At one instance, passing by to receive a dollar for charity, Berkowitz told the Rebbe his birthday was on Av 20. The Rebbe didn’t agree. Berkowitz later discovered that he was indeed born on the next day, Av 21.
His brothers hold respected positions within the Chabad community.
Rabbi Motel Berkowitz was a Schochet and a Chazzan in 770 for many years; Rabbi Aron Dovid Berkowitz is the Shliach in Huntington Beach, CA; Rabbi Shaya Berkowitz is a Mashpia and lecturer in Los Angeles; Rabbi Chaim Berkowitz is a teacher in the Yeshiva Lubavitch in Montreal.
Other siblings include sisters Pearl Tennenbaum and Lea Mezei of Monsey, NY.
The funeral passed by 770 Eastern Parkway.
He is survived by his wife Gittie Berkowitz of Monsey, NY / Deerfield Beach, Florida and their children Eli, Chaya Esther Einhorn, Pearl Laya Fisher, Yitzi and Chava Fried.
