Worcester Dedicates Torah in Memory of R’ Yaakov Zilberman

On Sunday, September 15th, 2024, the Jewish community of Worcester, Massachusetts, gathered for a momentous occasion—the dedication of a new Torah scroll in memory of R’ Yaakov Zilberman obm.

This dedication was held in honor of his second Yartzeit, which was on 10 Elul. The Torah, named “Yaakov’s Torah,” was lovingly donated by the Zilberman and Fogelman families, along with the extended Jewish community, to Central Mass Chabad.

R’ Yaakov was fully committed to the Rebbe’s shlichus, working with unwavering devotion to ensure the success and growth of the Chabad. he took great pride in teaching men, women, and children with immense care and patience, always ensuring they fully embraced the teachings of Torah. His infectious smile and warmth lit up every room, creating an atmosphere of love and connection wherever he went. His gentle manner and dedication made him a beloved mentor, and his presence was a source of joy and comfort to all who knew him.

The event began at the home of Rabbi Mendel and Chani Fogelman, where dozens of attendees gathered to witness and participate in writing the final letters of the Torah together with Rabbi Gad Sebbag, a renowned scribe from Oraita Stam. Once the Torah was completed, the celebration truly began, with participants joining a joyous parade through the streets of Worcester, accompanied by lively music from a Sound truck, filling the air with melodies of celebration.

Carried with great excitement, the Torah scroll led the community in a spirited march toward Central Mass Chabad. Upon arrival, the existing Torah scrolls were brought out to greet the newest addition to the ark, marking a moment of unity and joy.

The festivities continued inside the shul, where attendees enjoyed a lavish buffet catered by Chani’s Kosher Deli and Catering, known for its delicious and elegant spreads. The tasteful decor and setup, arranged by Rosie Fogelman, added a festive and welcoming atmosphere to the celebration.

Adding to the joy of the occasion, a group of bochurim from The Yeshiva of Suffield, Connecticut, energized the crowd with their spirited dancing. The musical accompaniment was provided by talented singer Oriyah Shiff, whose beautiful voice captivated the audience, and Menachem Jelen, who played the keyboard.

As the evening drew to a close, attendees enjoyed the meal while listening to heartfelt words from R’ Shmuel Binyomin Fogelman, an askan from Los Angeles, California. R’ Fogelman spoke movingly about R’ Yaakov Zilberman A”H, reflecting on his dedication to Torah, his involvement in Chabad activities, and his tremendous impact on the Worcester community.

This event was a powerful testament to the strength and unity of Worcester’s Jewish community and a fitting tribute to R’ Yaakov Zilberman’s memory. His legacy will live on through “Yaakov’s Torah,” which will be used in the daily services at Central Mass Chabad, ensuring that his spirit continues to inspire Torah study and mitzvot for generations to come.
