Sheina is a celebrated middle school teacher in a growing Lubavitch community. She has a great connection with her students, and she knows she is making an important impact by caring for “unzere” young adults.
Still, Sheina sometimes wishes she could work with “Chabad House” kids. “Having grown up in the Chabad system that places such an emphasis on Shlichus, I always dreamt of being able to “classic” shlichus. Teaching a child to say Shema Yisroel for the first time or inspiring a young girl to start lighting Shabbos candles is something I don’t really get to do in my day-to-day life.”
Is there space for Mechanchos in our own mosdos to also interact with the not-yet-religious crowd?
CGI Poconos, an overnight camp for girls from a variety of backgrounds, is looking to fill this niche. With camp growth reaching exponential numbers in recent years, CGIP’s directors have been hiring Lubavitch educators to fill senior staff educational positions for 5 weeks in the summer.
“These women are so capable and so passionate”, says Dini Druk, Hiring Director and an educator herself. “They have so much to give in the world of Shlichus, and we’re excited when we can offer them the opportunity to be directly involved with our campers.”
Recently, CGI Poconos has opened up positions such as Learning Director and Assistant Director, specifically to this crowd of female educators.
We are looking for women with experience who can take leadership roles within our growing camp, says Druk, who explains that while the camp will continue to hire post-seminary girls for various positions in camp, they are seeking to expand the senior, more permanent leadership.
To make the positions feasible, the camp is offering room & board for the educators’ families on their beautiful campgrounds as well as childcare and day camp for the children.
“Many young women who work in Chinuch or campus shlichus have some availability in the summer months and are looking for positive shlichus environments to spend time with their families. We feel we can offer just that,” says Gershon Sandler, the camp’s executive director.
