In honor of the birthday of the Rebbe, Westchester County Executive Mr. George Latimer presented a Proclamation honoring the Rebbe. The Proclamation with the official county seal dedicates the Rebbe’s birthday as Education Day, followed by 121 days of Goodness and Kindness in Westchester County New York.
A special session with inspirational messages of the Rebbe’s teachings was held for the senior staff at the highest government office of Westchester County. Deputy Executive Mr. Kenneth Jenkins expressed his appreciation for the Rebbe’s message about the importance of focusing on education, which is the key to a brighter future.
In his Proclamation, Mr. Latimer salutes the Rebbe’s global leadership and the Rebbe’s 4000 Chabad Houses and Shluchim Emissaries in more then one hundred countries around the world, including the more then ten Chabad House centers in Westchester County.
The Proclamation highlights the Rebbe’s call to action and for all citizen of the world to do additional acts of goodness and kindness. Thereby hastening the Biblical promised era of Moshiach and universal peace and harmony, between mankind and between all nations.
Mr. Latimer proudly recalled how he would join for many years the celebrations honoring the Rebbe’s birthday with the Lubavitch Youth Organization while serving as a member of the New York State Assembly in Albany, the Capital of New York.
The County Executive put a dollar bill into the new silver Charity Box which was presented to him by Rabbi Velvl Butman, Executive Director of Chabad Lubavitch of Westchester County. Rabbi Butman explained the Rebbe’s message regarding the purpose of money, as the many symbols of the dollar bill dollar including the statement In G-d We Trust.
One silver Charity Box is now prominently placed on Mr. Latimer’s desk and one at the executive welcome station.
The County Executive was proud to continue the tradition of 29 years which Rabbi Butman began in 1994. Honoring the Rebbe with government Proclamations and Medals of Honor.
The Proclamation states:
Whereas The Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem M. Schneerson, born on the 11th day of Nissan 5762, April 18, 1902, in Nikolaev, Russia, to the renowned kabbalist, talmudic scholar and Jewish leader Rabbi Levi Yitzchak and Rebbetzin Chana Schneerson. And;
Whereas From early childhood the Rebbe displayed a prodigious acuity. By the time he reached his Bar Mitzvah, the Rebbe was known as a Torah prodigy. He spent his teen years immersed in the study of Torah. And;
Whereas In 1929 The Rebbe married the sixth Rebbe’s daughter, Rebebetzin Chaya Mushka in Warsaw. For sixty years the Rebbetzin was the Rebbe’s life partner. The Rebbetzin passed away on 22 Shvat 5748, February 10, 1988. And;
Whereas On Monday, Sivan 28, 5701, June 23, 1941, the Rebbe and the Rebbetzin arrived in the United States of America, having been miraculously rescued, by the grace of Almighty G‑d, from the European holocaust. The Rebbe’s arrival marked the launching of a renaissance in strengthening and disseminating Torah and Judaism around the globe and Chabad Chassidic teachings in particular. And;
Whereas After the passing of his father-in-law, Rabbi Yosef Yitzchok Schneersohn in 1950, the Rebbe Rabbi Menachem M. Schneerson ascended to the leadership of the Lubavitch movement whose headquarters are at 770 Eastern Parkway in Brooklyn, New York. And;
Whereas The Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem M. Schneerson, has established more then 4000 Chabad House centers of light and illumination around the world, including more then 10 centers in Westchester County, enriching and strengthening, the educational, moral and ethical values of countless individuals of all walks of life around the globe. And;
Whereas The Rebbe’s call to all citizens of the world is to prepare for the final redemption and Moshiach, the biblical promised era of universal peace and harmony between mankind and between all nations of the world and for all of humanity to do additional acts of goodness and kindness. And;
Whereas 11 Nissan 5783 corresponding to Sunday April 2nd 2023 marks the 121st birthday of the Rebbe and it is being celebrated around the globe. And;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, George Latimer County Executive of Westchester County New York, do hereby proclaim April 2nd 2023 Education Day in Westchester County and dedicate121 Days of Goodness and Kindness in Westchester County in recognition and in honor of the Rebbe, beginning Sunday, April 2nd 2023 The 121st Birthday of the Rebbe.
