The Levi Yitzchak Family Center & Library in Cedarhurst, NY, frequented by Jewish children and parents from the Five Towns, was vandalized this past Friday night, May 30.
The perpetrator seen on surveillance cameras at 12:15 AM targeted its facade and caused thousands of dollars of damage to the building’s exterior.
The library was established after the tragic passing of 9-year-old Levi Yitzchak Wolowik obm, son of Rabbi Zalman Wolowik and Chanie Wolowik who head Chabad of the Five Towns.
It serves as the go-to place for learning and fun for different ages with visitors are always in awe of the welcoming atmosphere and collection of over 14,587 Jewish books on a wide range of topics. The Library of Jewish books also serves as a lending library to Shluchim around the world through a program from Merkos Suite 302.
Mrs. Wolowik said the damage was done “with deliberate intent” and that “we are working closely with the detectives at the Nassau County Police Department to identify this man.”
She did specify that “as of now, we were the lone target of this type of vandalism in the Five Towns.”
The library is currently closed due to the pandemic. Donations are being sought to finance the repairs necessary. Contribute at lylibrary.org/donate

During several trips that I made to the 5 towns, this was one of the places I stopped in & it’s a nice relaxing place!! I’m sorry that this has happened
Hes a criminal yet he’s so careful to put each piece into the garbage. Sickening to watch.
so sorry to see this. you do amazing educational efforts for the entire community and beyond. may you grow in your efforts from strength to strength.
What a heartless disgrace to humanity.
Rabbi and Chanie Wolowik, I hope you find this creature, and I’m sorry for what he has done.
