By a Brooklyn resident
It was seventeen minutes after midnight when the phone rang.
My daughter picked up the phone and with a look of confusion, she handed it to my husband.
The caller identified himself as a representative of National Grid.
He said that they got reports on the block of leaking gas. He is wondering if we smell gas. He said they need to find out where it’s coming from. He said we might hear noises and it’s because they are digging here.
My husband asked for his ID number.
He gave a number and a name, Jack McLoid.
A few minutes later into the conversation, my husband said, “So, can I get your number again?”
With that, the caller abruptly hung up the phone.
We immediately called National Grid and they confirmed that this was a scam.
We are sharing this with our fellow residents so they don’t become a victim of scams.
Beware of strange calls.
Do not open the door of your home for anyone you don’t know!
Don’t be too polite to ask pointed questions.
