“I assure you no mother ever expects to have to deal with their child being in jail,” says Rivki*, a widowed mother of two. When Rivki’s youngest son was incarcerated, she felt desperately alone. Who could she confide in? How could she assist her son from across the prison bars?
That’s when she discovered the Aleph Institute, an organization founded under the direction of the Rebbe which provides spiritual, emotional, and physical aid to families fractured by the criminal justice system.
What began as a resource during a trying time soon turned into genuine friendship and a critical lifeline for Rivki and her family. Aleph intervened on her son’s behalf in various ways—arranging for medical care, addressing religious considerations, and providing assistance during his transfers.
“They took the time not only to meet a need, but to truly get to know each of us as individuals, many times calling just to schmooze,” says Rivki. “Aleph absolutely believes and proves every day that we are family because no one should be alone or forgotten.”
Tragically, when Rivki’s husband passed away, Aleph stepped in both financially and emotionally, ensuring she didn’t have to bear the heartbreak alone. “The day I had to drive to tell my son that his father had passed away—I would never have accomplished the journey or the words without the help of Aleph… What I first considered an ‘organization’ quickly became a ‘family.’”
For Rivki and thousands like her, the Aleph Institute offers hope—a precious commodity. Combining the care of family with years of experience navigating the justice system, Aleph is the only “organization” that can truly understand their plight and offer practical assistance.
Unfortunately, Aleph cannot meet the ongoing need for their services without communal support. Their budget has doubled in the last five years, and they simply can’t keep up. Yet, to have to turn even a single soul away due to lack of funds is devastating.
Thanks to generous matchers, now is your chance to make DOUBLE the impact on lonely individuals who have nowhere else to turn. For those in isolation and those without a voice, YOU can be the key to unlocking their hope.
