Torah Learning Heats Melbourne

While many businesses closed their doors over the December 25 – January 1 period, Kollel Menachem kicked opened its doors to a large array of participants in this year’s Summer Learning Program – Yarchei Kallah.

This annual Torah learning event, the largest in the southern hemisphere, is the highlight of the year for many of the local and interstate guests. As one glowing participant put it best, “we work all year so we can learn this week.”

The headliner of this year’s program was scholar in residence, Rabbi Ari Shishler of Sandton, South Africa. Rabbi Shishler, a crowd favorite in Melbourne, offered many fascinating and entertaining insights to the large assembly.

Rabbi Shishler led a women’s prayer series progressing through the many aspects of daily davening, and a series for men on the Rambam’s “Yud Gimmel Ikarim.” He then delivered his feature lecture to a packed hall of men and women at noon daily.

Joining Rabbi Shishler was a spectacular cast of local talent offering Shiurim on many varied topics. Dr. Sara Rosenfeld led a daily shiur on advanced text based study of Rashi Sichos for ladies. This shiur was so popular, the ladies have organized for it to continue on a weekly basis throughout the year.

Many fascinating Shiurim were offered by Kollel Menachem’s own Rabbi Michoel Stern, Rabbi Yisroel Lebenholc, Rabbi Doobie Lisker and Rabbi Shraga Telsner. Kollel Hanahola Rabbi Yonason Johnson and Rabbi Shlomo Sabbah offered the advanced text based Sugyas daily. Other Shiurim were presented local Rabbonim Rabbi Mendel Haller, Rabbi Yossi Gordon, Rabbi Avrohom Jacks, Rabbi Ephrayim Baskin and Rabbi Yoel Doron. We thank the many lecturers for their time and effort in preparing these spectacular presentations.
