The people who made news in the Merrimack Valley, Massachusetts, in 2009: Rabbi Asher Bronstein.
Why he’s newsworthy:
The Andover rabbi at Chabad Lubavitch of Merrimack Valley threatened to sue the town of North Andover in November after selectmen initially denied his request to put up a menorah on the town common for all eight days of Hanukkah.
The lawsuit threat led to the temporary removal of the Merry Christmas sign on the downtown fire station.
Update:
Selectmen amended the town common usage policy to allow holiday displays for more than one day between Thanksgiving through Jan. 7.
Bronstein was joined by town officials on the common on Dec. 17 for the menorah lighting.
