Another issue of the COLlive Magazine was published in honor of Chanukah 5783 with original and interesting features ranging from public policy to art, food to education, with Torah and humor in the mix as well.
Opening articles tells of the activism of Devorah Halberstam in New York City, the pop of color and Judaism that Yitzchok Moully brings to his art, the 40 years of Lois Yampolsky knowing the ins and outs of Lubavitch, and the silver creations of Gadi Blizinsky of Elite Sterling.
Inspirational messages include a letter from the Rebbe in honor of the year of Hakhel, a letter from the publisher Mica Soffer about an interesting find, and 4 spiritual lessons given on a cold Chanukah night at 770 Eastern Parkway.
In honor of Chanukah, we bring a story that California Shliach Rabbi Eli Hecht heard in his childhood about lighting a Menorah in the woods, humorist Mordechai Schmutter shares inventions we need in the kitchen, and an article explores the connection between Chanukah and mental health.
In the food section, Rebbetzin Rochie Pinson shares a fun recipe for creating sufganiyot fries (fried in oil, of course) and popular food blogger and author Nina Safar presents “fried heaven” – Waffle Latke Brunch Board, Cheddar Stuffed Latke Balls, Nacho Latkes and Pumpkin Hash Brown Latkes.
In the Then & Now column, Zev Gotkin tells the story of 766 Eastern Parkway. Once the home of a Jewish dentist, it was the location of a theft that rocked Chabad-Lubavitch and is now a source for scholars and researchers.
The newest section in the magazine is “Meet the Chinuch Shluchim,” a running feature by COLlive and the Menachem Education Foundation (MEF) highlighting teachers who are dedicated to raising the next generation of Lubavitch.
