This year, 7 young children stayed in shul for Yizkor. All their friends left for the few minutes of hazkaras neshamos and yet these orphans stayed behind. The Biderman children lost their mother to cancer just a few short months ago.
Sarah Biderman battled cancer for over a year. Any money the Biderman family had went toward hospital bills, until they were mired in debts of hundreds of thousands of dollars. Soon, after chemotherapy, surgeries and painful treatments, Mrs. Biderman could hide her illness no longer. Her family is heartbroken. Seven children are left at home, and the father is struggling to cope. They are living through the horrific aftermath of a family ravaged by cancer. The children are mourning their mom, and the father is drowning in a sea of debt with no end in sight. This Sukkos was their first Yom Tov without their mother. It is a mitzvah to be happy on Sukkos, yet the young orphans could not help the tears leaking from their eyes.
Chilling video footage shows the Biderman children still in their torn clothing from the levaya of their mother. Esti speaks in the name of all her siblings: “I am begging you from the depths of my heart: please help our family!” The dark circles under her eyes reveal the the difficult situation of all seven children left at home.
Now, one of the Biderman girls is engaged to be married. She will walk to the chuppah without her mother beside her. It is a happy time, yet one that adds to the financial strain of the family.
