Seeing a warm heart, London businessman Bernard Perrin convinced one of his fur suppliers, Max Katsch, to come with him to the Rebbe for Shavuos. While he was not observant, he enjoyed attending the Rebbe’s farbrengens, and how the audience clung to his every word.
The highlight for visitors, was a private audience with the Rebbe. Because there were so many visitors, each person was allotted a short time. Mr. Perrin and Mr. Katsch scheduled appointments for the day after Shavuos. The fur supplier remained in the audience for quite some time, and when he emerged, he excitedly told Mr. Perrin, “The Rebbe is the greatest,” without explaining further.
The next evening, while eating dinner, the Rebbe’s secretariat called the home where Mr. Perrin was staying and said that the Rebbe would like to see him at once.
Taken aback at the sudden audience, he rushed to the Rebbe’s office. The Rebbe greeted him with a wide smile and began to talk about various topics. However, to the businessman, none seemed to be necessary for a special audience.
At one point, he recalled, “I took the bull by the horns” and asked, “What was the reason for this extra audience?”
The Rebbe responded, “This is commission for bringing Mr. Katsch to 770.”
