The FBI arrested four suspects who planned to blow up New York synagogues as part of a terror plot.
The men, at least three of whom appear radicalized recent converts to Islam according to law enforcement sources, were arrested following an FBI sting operation in which the men allegedly planned to purchase stinger missiles.
The suspects were identified as James Cromitie, David Williams, Onta Williams, and Laguerre Payen. They currently reside in Newburgh, New York.
Investigators said they plotted to detonate explosives near a synagogue in the Riverdale section of the Bronx, New York, and to shoot military planes located at the New York Air National Guard Base at Stewart Airport in Newburgh, New York, with Stinger surface-to-air guided missiles.
The FBI and other agencies monitored the defendants’ actions up to the time of arrest, including providing an inactive missile and fake explosives. While attempting to plant these fake bombs, the FBI swooped in and arrested the four suspects outside the temple and community center that they hoped to bomb.
“If the FBI were not involved, this would have been an absolute tragedy,” King said. “This was a real plot. They were in the act of carrying it out tonight.”
In their efforts to obtain weapons, the defendants dealt with an informant acting under law enforcement supervision.
The men met extensively in Newburgh while planning this operation.
The four defendants are each charged with one count of conspiracy to use weapons of mass destruction within the U.S. If convicted, they face a maximum penalty of life in prison.
All four are also charged with conspiracy to acquire and use anti-aircraft missiles, which carries a maximum penalty of life in prison and a mandatory minimum of 25 years in prison.
If these “extremists” can break the law and get a gun and come visit us in shul, G-d forbid.
That’s how life is. But NY law should not stop citizens without criminal backgrounds to carry concealed weapons to shul.
Could you imagine? These clowns show up, and instead of the police coming a few minutes later to take pictures of our dead bodies, the clowns would meet 10/20 Jews with guns and a bullet in the head.
How is that for justice?
