With the first night of Chanukah falling on Sunday this year, the Mitzvah Tank Organization had a unique problem.
The organization rents dozens of motor homes, transformed into “Mitzvah Tanks” for the eight day holiday, which are driven by students around the city to bring light and joy of the holiday to many thousands.
In order to have the Mitzvah Tanks ready for Sunday evening, in time for the lighting of the first candle, the Mitzvah Tank Organization made special arrangements with the Cruise America company to open on Saturday evening.
Rabbi Moishe Schmukler, co-director of the Mitzvah Tank Organization, flew to Arizona to meet with Cruise America CEO Michael Smalley and Vice President Michael Marcine, to arrange all the details.
“This year, because it’s a Hakhel year, there was an even greater effort to send out many more Mitzvah Tanks,” said Rabbi Mordy Hirsch, co-director of the mitzvah Tank organization. “For the first time in history there are 35 Mitzvah Tanks dispersed all over the NY Metropolitan area for Chanukah, arranged by the young students from Chabad yeshivas.”
The Mitzvah Tanks will take part in the world’s largest annual Menorah Parade, on Motzei Shabbos, 30 Kislev, Dec 12, the seventh night of Chanukah, at 6:15 PM sharp.
Registration for the menorah parade is now open at www.menorahparade.nyc.
