An arrest has been made in the case of a New York City rabbi who was murdered in North Miami Beach back in 2014.
According to Miami-Dade Police, 15-year-old Deandre Edwin Charles was arrested at around 6 a.m., Wednesday morning, after a 16-month long investigation.
Sources said the teen, who was 14 at the time of the crime, went on a robbery spree throughout Northeast Miami-Dade and North Miami Beach when he ran into Rabbi Yosef Raksin. Raksin was walking to Synagogue, on that Aug. 9, Saturday morning, not carrying any money. Observing Jews are forbidden to carry money on the Sabbath.
Charles, who is accused of shooting Raksin to death got away empty handed.
7News was on scene Wednesday, as the teen was put into the back of a cop car in handcuffs. Charles was indicted by a grand jury, which means he will be tried as an adult. He is charged with First degree murder.
Raksin’s murder left his family and the South Florida Jewish community on edge. The rabbi’s funeral in Brooklyn was attended by hundreds.
The Miami-Dade State Attorney’s office never gave up on the case, and now, as his family celebrates Hanukkah, a Jewish festival recalling miracles, they have their own miracle. Closure.
In an interview with Raksin’s daughter back in July, she said, “It could happen to anyone, and no one wants to live in this unknown place and feel like they could do whatever they want, take lives and just walk out free.”
Homicide detectives are currently going through the subject’s house, in Northwest Miami-Dade.
A news conference has been scheduled with the Rabbi’s family at 2:30 p.m., Wednesday.

America – where only the victim gets a death sentence !
And perhaps it is some consolation for them to know that because of their father’s senseless murder Jews all over the country woke up and realized we have to be ready to defend ourselves, where I live there are now people carrying in every shul.
A 14 year old punk! A life for a life… life imprisonment!
May Hashem comfort the family.. its so painful.
he bh is being tried as an adult
there is dna evidence
this has been a big effort from miami dade pd and the new prosecuters on the case that made this happen
it is very important that we keep the pressure on the d a office and make sure he is prosecuted as an adult
Bh very happy now its a relievmant!!!
Unfortunately it won’t bring him back, that’s only with Mosiach.
It will give the family some comfort and satisfaction
that he was caught.

BSD
ITS ALL BITTER
I hope justice for the family and neshoma
if that is the case, why then will they wait for 16 months to do that ? they could have done it sooner!!
And it’s a good thing! But now, a trial, and will he be proven to be the murderer? And what will his sentence be?? More questions. This is not the end, but hopefully the beginning of the end.
I wonder: Are they sure they have the right suspect? Or have they perhaps made a random arrest just to show that they are doing something, to close their books, and to get the Jewish community off their case.
And state attorney’s office who made this a high priority case
Such a nice guy I used to stand next to him by farbrengens
That this human vermin was found and justice can be served. Some closure to the family.
My heart goes out to the family.
But a miracle nonetheless. May he rest in peace and may his family be consoled.
