2 and 3 are right and they answer the question of 1 and 4. see the letter of the Rebbe about it in igros, nothin to do with licking but rather with stamping on top of it. for this reason, the image of tanya or 770 is also a shaalah in my humble opinion.

what exactly is disrespectful about licking the back of a stamp with a picture of the Rebbe on it? I fail to comprehend!

its also the post office mark in ink that goes on the stamp when the stamp is used.
that is disrespectful as well, if not the primary concern

the disrespect of the post office stamping on the image of the Rebbe. This was what the Rebbe said about this proposal 50 years ago.

Why don’t they just make it a sticker so it doesn’t have to be licked??

I think it’s a very nice design as is.
