A project started to help the organization Keren Simchas Chosson V’Kallah, which pays for wedding expenses for needy couples, has also helped many girls and bochurim find their shidduch.
Last year, Shlucha Devora Caytak of Ottawa, Canada looked for a way to help raise funds for the Crown Heights organization in the merit of which she hoped to find Shidduchim for her 2 children.
The fund, known as KSCVK and run by Devorah Benjamin, was about to make a wedding for an orphan, and $10,000 was needed.
Caytak told friends and posted online about her initiative: singles or their parents should donate $100 per name, and 100% of the money would go to KSCVK.
The hope was, in the merit of giving Tzedakah, the bochur or girl would merit to find their proper Shidduch, she said.
Within 9 days, $13,000 was raised, and the wedding expenses were covered. The kallah, Devorah Benjamin and Devorah Caytak then went to the Rebbe’s Ohel in Queens and prayed for each name that donated.
Benjamin was very moved by the outpouring of support the project received. “I was speechless to see the amount of achdus Chabad women have,” she told COLlive.
“They didn’t waste a second. They all said, ‘someone needs help, let’s pull together.’ It didn’t matter where they are from, this project brought women together from around the world for a common cause.”
Once the wedding was over, “the most amazing things started to happen,” says Caytak.
“People started calling us, saying that the segulah had worked,” she says “One woman told us nothing had been moving for her daughter, and after taking part in the project they have a serious name being discussed. Another said a suggestion that had come up for her son the year before and they had turned down, they had for some reason checked into again – and the couple was about to get engaged. People just kept coming back with stories,” she said.
Indeed, the segulah seems to have worked for the Caytaks, as they were fortunate to marry off two children within eleven days of each other, shortly after this Shidduch project.
After such amazing results, Caytak is organizing the Shidduch Project again until Rosh Hashana. If you know of a bochur or girl that is in need of a Shidduch, please contact Devora Caytak at 613-729-7712 or e-mail dev18@sympatico.ca. Please provide the girl/bochur’s full Jewish name and Mother’s Jewish name, address, telephone and e-mail and credit card information ($100 per name).
100% of the money raised (we need to raise $10,000, to pay for one orphan’s wedding) will be sent to KSCVK. All the names submitted will be read at the Ohel by the Kallah and the two Devorahs.
You are one of the most respected women in the Chabad world today.
You are amazing!! Love seeing you in front of Empire Kosher.
No fancy offices for you! You are out working hard to collect momoney to help others. Thank you for all that you do. I will whip out my credit card at Empire Kosher next time I see you and DOUBLE my donation.
Yasher Koach and Hatzlacha!!
The organizers of this project totally agree with you! Tzedakah is only one part, and no one has said otherwise.
We have to put in the histadlus….dovening, tehillim, tzedakah (in a full manner) and make the pipelines to receive the brachos. We have to do whatever we can b’ruchniyus!
It is well known that the Rebbe encouraged giving to Hachnosas Kallah 18 cents every day. Tzedakah creates a conduit for brachos. However, this is only part of what the Rebbe instructed. Let’s not forget the importance of Improving one’s spiritual state, increasing in torah mitzvohs, davening, helping others with their shidduchim and simchas, and learning the Rebbe’s directives on shidduchim. Makes me very nervous to imply / promise that $100 is all it takes.
You can also go to a secure site
