Elder Chosid Rabbi Yisroel Shimon Kalmanson, who was the person the Rebbe trusted as his personal Schochet, passed away Thursday, 30 Shvat, 5772.
He was 98.
Rabbi Kalmanson was known as the Rebbe’s schochet, and would be seen standing near the Rebbe during Kapparos each year, and would later schecht the chicken for the Rebbe.
Rabbi Kalmanson was also entrusted by the Rebbe to make wine for his personal use each Pesach, making the wine in his own home on Crown Street.
He is survived by his children: Rochel Heber – Crown Heights, Sholom Kalmanson – Cincinnati, Ohio, Mordechai Kalmanson – Crown Heights, Baila Greenbaum – California and Miriam Blizinsky – Crown Heights.
The Levaya will take place today, leaving shomrei hadas at 1:15 pm and passing 770 at 1:45 pm.
R’ Mordechai Kalmanson will be sitting Shiva for his father R ‘Yisroel Shimon Kalmanson at his home, 1364 Carroll Street (bet. Kingston and Brook.; lower level entrance) Sunday to Tuesday.

His brother passed away last month.
We have lost great chassidim. They just don’t make them like they used to.
