Prime Minister Naftali Bennett and other government ministers were on hand at Ben Gurion Airport to greet a group of around 100 Jewish orphans fleeing Ukraine on Sunday.
At the end of an intensely difficult journey to escape war-torn Ukraine, Prime Minister Bennett welcomed Rabbi Shlomo Wilhelm, the Shliach to Zhitomir, located about 140 kilometers west of Kiev, who accompanied dozens of children from his city’s orphanage.
The refugees traveled on El Al, Israel’s largest airline, as part of a special operation to rescue some 300 Jews from the fighting in Ukraine.
The airline says Ukrainian-speaking staff were on board the flight to assist. Some of the orphans have family members who are still in fighting areas, it adds.
Rabbi Wilhelm evacuated the orphanage as the violence in the city escalated. Between Saturday night and Sunday morning, a Russian missile attack in Zhitomir caused the death of a civilian and the destruction of several dozen houses, according to official sources.

Inspirational the work of all the chabad shluchim around the world. Totally selfless. May our children grow up to emulate these special people
Israel is doing more than Biden’s administration!!
What is the plan in Israel ? Hashem should give this tzadik of a chassid the koach to look after all these children . No easy task ! What will be with Purim and Pesach ? Where will they be staying ? Rebbe , take care of your chassidim. To us in America there’s hundreds of links each one is a desperate cry for help where every dollar matters ! Let’s cut our Purim expenses and donate !
We should cut down on Purim goodies and donate. No child should ever have to decide what to stuff in a little bag and run. The emotional impact of this is huge. I hope hashem gives them the koach they need. This is OUR own chasidim. WE MUST HELP ! again and again as much as we can. The woman left with the one shaitel on there head! can you imagine.
Like running out of a burning building with a sefer torah, these children are living sifreo torah. With all the trauma, arriving in Eretz Yisrael should be a source of joy and comfort.
How do I donate ?
