Ever since the Rebbe’s call to bring the children to hear the Ten Commandments, Chabad Markham has taken the Rebbes call to make the Ten Commandments come alive to a whole new level.
Not only do the children listen to the actual reading of the Torah, but they are exposed to the live characters who dramatise and re-enact some of the midrash stories associated with the giving of the Torah.
This year close to 500 people who attended were treated to the famous debate between the mountains as to who should merit to have the Torah given on them.
The crowd was caught off guard when Mount Everest , the Andes and little Sinai made their way in to the shul and presented their case in front of the congregation.
Rabbi Meir Gitlin, Youth Director who was dressed as Moshe Rabeinu acted as the mediator between the Mountains and explained to the crowd the verdict that sinai was the one because of humility and that humility pays.
In addition, chabad markham, featured their famous Bikurim parade with hundreds of children marching in with decorated baskets of fruit which they personally presented to the shul’s kohanim led by Aaron Hakohen, who was dressed in his special Kohen Gadol garments.
Following this ceremony the community was treated to a grand kiddush and ice-cream party for the children. The fruits from the bikurim parade were delivered after the holiday to a shelter for abused children.
A brilliant idea – I think I might do this myself
