I think, and you know what #1 and #2 meant….
Its the non tight, non showy shirts and skirts that the ladies are wearing that don’t create untznius thoughts from other men along the street.
I agree their head coverings are not according to halacha. Obviously, #1 and #2 where not referring to that.
But we can learn from them to cover our knees and cover our neck bones.
It is a beautiful thing to be proud to cover our holy bodies, as children of The King!
You think you can learn from them how to dress? Finally! people dressing tzniusdikly in C H? If married women were walking around crown heights like that BOTH of you would be screaming “How scandalous! How can these women walk around like that with their hair showing like that? Elbows showing? Terrible! How Un-Tznius of them! Shame on them! How can we let our girls/women walk around like that, it’s shameful!” And yet, when you see Goyim dressed the same way you Jump to say how we can learn from them? Because by goyishe standards it is considered tznius? you… Read more »
There is no text with this story…so
I agree, by appearance, these people are Mennonites or Brethren, not Amish. That said, why did they go to CH? Was this a planned, structured visit, or did they just show up? If they planned a visit why? And who did they call to plan it? And if they did just show up what were they expecting, and how did they end up with a rabbi talking to them?
Rabbi Yossi Serebryanski
what a kiddush Hashem!
Generally, Amish women wear a different style of cap and the men don’t wear belts. I also see at least one cell phone and that plaid shirt probably wouldn’t fly with the Amish either.
#8: Mormon women don’t cover their hair.
#12: The Amish won’t pose for photos, but most won’t stop someone else from taking their picture.
what’s TLC?
What’s a “show”?
I think it’s a chutzpah that you aren’t embarrased that you watch TV .
The Amish people don’t either
That all is behashgacha protis!
Thus everything hashem shows us is for a reason & purpose
Either to;
1) learn from it a lesson (in life or how to serve H’)
2) to ACT on it, that the situation was shown to me to speak up or Intevene with an action that is required of me by Totah/my mission in this world
The correct approach (for a Torah centered chassid) in this case is to see what lessons we can glean from them in improving our own personal conduct as Jews with a Devine mission to fulfill
…..
These people are mennonites, not Amish.
noticed that too, such derech eretz 🙂
did they walk al the way from deep NJ or PA?
to 5: women sit on the bench because its not tsnius for a woman to seat on the floor (shu”a orach chayim)
ummm okay?! i gues they arent so fum after all 😛
they appear neither amish nor ‘mormon’. they look to me like mennonites.
#7 Ur stupid if u believe everything on TV especially these reality shows.
amish men only grow a beard once they’re married. mormons don’t have distinctive dress.they’re def. amish.
Theses people are Mormon, hence the lack of beards
tlc ran a show on them last night. They live such depressed lives. no love no emotions ….they get shunned for doing anything “not according to standards”…. ugh so sad.
at least none of them are staring down at cell phones while someone is speaking
I love how the men let the women sit on the bench while they take the floor. Lovely.
The group was very friendly, and it was interesting to see the hats the ladies were wearing. The lack of the mustached beards gave us the clue to why the women had head coverings,,,
how random! what were the amish doing in crown heights??
Finally! people dressing tzniusdikly in C H
i think we can learn from them how to dress
