The community of New Haven came together in a joyous celebration to mark a significant milestone in the growth of The Colony Shul. After two years of growth, the community now has a Torah of its own.
The Torah was dedicated by Menachem and Dini Gurevitch, in loving memory of their esteemed brother, Rabbi Chaim Gurevitch OBM, on the occasion of his third yartzeit, Gimmel Nissan.
In a heartfelt afternoon ceremony, the final letters of the Torah were inscribed by members of the Gurevitch family and the wider New Haven community, hosted graciously by Yudi and Rosie Gurevitch.
As the sun began to set, the streets of New Haven came alive with the sound of singing and dancing as hundreds of men, women, and children joined in a joyous procession to escort the Torah to its new home at The Colony Shul. The atmosphere was electric, filled with the spirit of unity and celebration.
The festivities continued with a lavish buffet and a beautiful dinner, accompanied by divrai Torah from, Rabbi Mendel Prescott, Rov of The Colony Shul, Rabbi Levi Gurevitch, Shliach to South Lake, Texas, Rabbi Sholom Ber Hecht, Shliach to Queens, NY, and Rabbi Zalman Marasow, Shliach to Montreal, Canada, imparted their brachos and reflections on this momentous occasion.
It was a beautiful and meaningful event to honor the memory of a special chossid, Rabbi Chaim Gurevitch, and to celebrate the continued growth and strength of The Colony Shul community.
