Rabbi Mendy Ceitlin and his wife Mushky (nee Korf) were announced as the newest Chabad Shluchim in California who will be establishing Chabad of Silver Lake in the popular central Los Angeles neighborhood.
Rabbi Ceitlin, who was born and raised in Montreal, Canada, graduated Chabad Yeshivos and has been extensively involved in outreach work as a young rabbinical student and later as the director of Mitzvah Society, an initiative of Merkos 302 at Lubavitch World Headquarters.
Mrs. Ceitlin was raised on Shlichus in the neighboring hillside enclave of Los Feliz where her parents Rabbi Leibel and Dvonye Korf run Chabad of Greater Los Feliz. She has graduated Chabad schools and has been running educational programs and activities in Los Angeles and in Park Slope, Brooklyn.
Now, they are moving from their home in Crown Heights to the area that is often described as the “Brooklyn of Los Angeles.” Silver Lake is one of the city’s hippest areas and boasts an eclectic vibe with boutique shopping and a walkable stip along Sunset Boulevard and the Silver Lake Reservoir.
The Ceitlins said their focus will be making Judaism’s teaching and practice available to all, especially young Jewish adults and families. “We are very excited to begin this Shlichus,” they said. “We will begin with hosting people for Shabbos meals and Torah classes.”
They were appointed by Rabbi Leibel Korf, the Shliach of Los Feliz, and Rabbi Shlomo Cunin, Head Shliach of California.
