Resilience
Resilience is the capacity to recover quickly from difficulties. It is much more than a good midah. To say the least, it’s a dynamic process, a type of centered fluidity that allows us to move in any direction with ease and agility. As we build more resilience, we can bear a heavier weight with less effort because of the strength at our foundation – with signs of optimism, creativity and innovation, vitality and enthusiasm, fulfilling relationships, an ability to focus deeply and feeling ‘on top’ of situations.
Life is filled with so many ups and downs that often our sense of balance and strength may feel unsteady. An insulting email, a concern about a child, a mistake at work can rock our resilience boats.
In situations like this, I go to the Infiniti Coaching Tree® Model and use it to identify the goal, where we need to stretch to reach the highest potential. This model helps us throughout the process to support and insure positive change. When you look forward, focus on the goal, you will steady yourself from failing and falling, but like every process in the life, the first step is being open to change.
The Tree® Model
כי אדם עץ השדה׳’ – Man is like a tree of the field (Devarim 20:19, Rashi) . In the human tree, the roots represent our faith and values, the trunk, branches and leaves signifies our intellectual and emotional faculties, and the fruit of the tree is our ability to create new life, affect others, and inspire change. But I believe the most admirable trait of the tree is its resilience.
Like all perennial plants, they thrive through all four seasons, and many can withstand windstorms traveling at speeds of up to sixty miles per hour or more, and a tree can live to be over two thousand years old! To take the lesson of resilience from the tree, and to focus on staying grounded and centered can help us endure the storms and tribulations all around us.
“Shift happens to everyone, but the power is to take control of your shift, and lead from your greatest potential.”
