Now here’s a new meaning to ‘Mitzvah on the run’…
13-year-old Mendy Ash came with his family to the 2015 Comrades Marathon, the world’s largest and oldest ultramarathon race held annually between the cities of Durban and Pietermaritzburg in South Africa.
His parents Rabbi Eitan and Gila Ash lead the Chabad Shul Savoy in Johannesburg and were on hand at the marathon to offer participants to do a Mitzvah.
When Mendy came across a Jewish man running, he quickly offered to help him with putting on Tefillin. The person agreed but needed to keep running.
The young Chabad boy didn’t miss a beat and started running along, reciting the blessings with the man and then wrapping Tefillin on his arm and head.
“Shema Yisroel…” was then said with the runner looking forward and Mendy running backwards.
A person nearby captured it on video:

Kol Hakavod to them all
Just to clarify, Rabbi Ash and Gila did not go down with Mendy but Mendy was flown down at his request on Friday before the comrades as he wanted to do one thing and that was help jews in the comrades to put on teffillin. He was under the leadership of Rabbi Shlomo Wainer of Chabad North Coast, KZN, ZA.
Mendy is continuously bringing nachas to his entire family with his incredible love of his fellow jew and constant inner need to go out and do mivtzoyim.
This is the essence of Chabad.
But I gotta say, you guys rock!!
Keep it up.
