Congregation Levi Yitzchok of Morristown, NJ organized a grand Melaveh Malkah commemorating the 200th year of the passing of the “Alter Rebbe” – Rabbi Schneur Zalman of Liadi.
Reb Ezra Solomon, CLY’s Long Standing President, coordinated and arranged yet again another wonderful Melaveh Malkah, fully catered by “Lin’s Kosher Chinese Takeout” from Manville, NJ.
Head Shliach of New Jersey, Rabbi Moshe Herson, and Rov of CLY, Rabbi Zalman Wilchanski both farbrenged at length.
Rabbi Herson regaled participants with stories of the Alter Rebbe on how he enlightened many Misnagdim into welcoming the way of Chassidus into the day to day life back then.
Then Rabbi Wilshanski and Rabbi Herson both related how exactly 50 years ago, Motzoei Shabbos Shemos, 23 Teves, 5723 (1962), the Rebbe suddenly walked into the downstairs shul of “770” for a farbrengen. The time of his entry was unusual: 10:25 PM. Normally, all Fabrengens began at 8:30 PM, or in later years, at 9:30 PM. But 10:25 PM had never happened before. They continued relating how the Rebbe said these incredible words: “On the yartzeit of a tzaddik, he arouses compassion for all of the Chassidim, their wives and children. But when Chassidim gather on that day to study his Torah and have a “farbrentgen,” then he arouses even more compassion on them. This is the way that we present a “Pedyin Nefesh” to the Alter Rebbe on this day –by gathering together and learning his Torah.”
Then the Farbrengen continued well into the night, filled with Niggunim and words of encouragement to solidify that very Hora’ah.
We extend many thanks to the wonderful efforts of CLY’s long standing President, Reb Ezra Solomon who coordinated and arranged this and all events that happen at CLY.

As a recent visitor to Morristown, I am not surprised to read such an article. Congregation Levi Yitzchok is a perfect example of warmkeit b’ruchnias and b’gashmias and stands as a real source of nachias and example of what one should expect from a Lubavitcher community. Looking forward to more good news from your community – rumours are that a new much larger shul is planned on the property!
Hey Ezra, kol hakovod! You are giving the Rebbe nachas! We miss you here on Sydney. Keep up the good work!
