With forecasters predicting that New Jersey would bear the brunt of Hurricane Sandy, Chabad schools in Morristown, NJ were closed Monday and remain so Tuesday.
In anticipation of widespread power outages in the area, students of Yeshiva Tomchei Temimim and Yeshivas Tiferes Bachurim of Morristown, NJ were relocated to Crown Heights.
The Morristown Police Department are still urging people to stay home, as most of Morristown has lost electricity, Rabbi Boruch Hecht, Director of Admissions at Yeshiva Tiferes Bachurim told COLlive.
“Even though most of our area did not lose power, trees and wires have fallen in many places,” he reports. “However, it turns out that the power stayed on at the Yeshiva,” he said. “The Yeshiva is open for learning and students may return as soon as the roads are safe.”
“We do appreciate the hospitality of people in Crown Heights, which was amazing,” he said.
Nevertheless, one bochur was spotted learning with his chavrusa ensuring that the power of Torah remains strong.
oh yeah that’s how we are back in Milwaukee.
I remember Avner Yaakov from Mayanot and he was an inspiration to us all
will never be forgotten.
Avner Yaakov Tarica-Lechter has always made his family and friends proud. He is a very loved young man.
dont forget rabbi dovid rapoport
someone please lift up that falling electrical wire over sussex. it looks rather threatening , thank you,.
I thought the bochurim were told to evacuate the Yeshiva??
The downed trees on Tikvahway are TERRIFYING!!! There are MANY dead/dieing ones. Maybe they should be looked into before one goes through someones house CV!!!
This young man is a light onto so many! He has been a very positive influence on me and my son. His journey and thoughtfulness are inspiring to say the least as is his commitment to Torah. Hashem has truly blessed his family and community. Knowing him, wonderful young lady would surely be welcome to comment #2. Strength to Strength.

These families’ names must also be mentioned. We could never thank any of them enough.
No family and community could be prouder of their son and brother and uncle, and friend than we all are.
My son is 26 years old and is devoted to Torah and Mitzvot. He is a man who does everything possible to bring light into the world and to be transparently holy. Now he is the leader and I am the follower. And make no mistake his sister and her family also is leading my wife and me in ways we never anticipated. G-d bless them always. We also hank Hashem every day for letting us find the Shmotkin family and the community they have led for many years now.
your learning sustained the power for all of us so we could post things on col, keep up the good work. P.S. we’ve been farbrenging in the dorms for the last two days; we thought you might like to come and join. We didn’t figure anybody would be in zal.
Who took these pictures of Yeshiva and Tikvah way. Looks like some massive trees came down, a miracle that it stayed parallel to the house and didn’t hit anyones apartment
I wouldn’t expect anything less from such a wonderful young man, from a wonderful family with pure Yiddishkite running through his veins. What nachas to his parents, his Bayside Rabbi’s, and all who know him.
B”H! It looks like the wifi stayed on.
were roomates
… And in the cheder, learning continued – on the phone. The teachers and chinuch in morristown is amazing!
After hearing that a couple went out to walk their dog in Brooklyn, and only the dog survived, I’m not so sure it’s a good idea to be outside today. With all the water being absorbed by the earth trees are falling at whim. This couple was killed by a tree, and last year two people living in NJ were killed by a falling tree as they left shule on Shabbos.
You can learn Torah at home..
Please be responsible and stay safe.
where were the rest of the bochurim? most of them stay in the dorm and they did not lose power?
whats his name i might have a wonderful shidduch for him!
