The Ohr Hatorah Library of Stamford Hill, London, marked the 204th yartzeit of the Alter Rebbe on Chof Daled Teves with a grand Melava Malka at the Pardes Banquet Hall.
Guest speaker for the event was Rabbi Aron Dovid Gancz, of Monsey, NY, as well as local speakers Rabbi Weinberg, Rav of Tiferes Yisroel of Golders Green, who highlighted the importance of tefillah, and how nothing is more effective than a pure and sincere tefillah, which reaches the heavens.
Dayan LY Raskin, Dayan of Lubavitch community, expounded on a ruling of the Alter Rebbe, and how the halocho is expressed through his highly precise terminology. This is also evident in his siddur rulings, both in the nusach hatefillah and the halochoh.
Rabbi Gancz spoke of the contribution of Chassidic teachings to enhancing everyday yiddishkeit, and how the concepts of chassidus can shed extra light on every aspect of our daily lives.
The Melava Malka had a fully catered meal, a choir of yeshiva bochurim sang beautiful chassidishe niggunim, with musical accompaniment. There was a beautiful warm atmosphere, with hundreds of yidden joining in the animated dancing and singing. It was heart-warming to see the unity of the celebrants who covered the whole spectrum of the chassidishe community in London.
A sale of Chassidic seforim was also available at the Melave Malka, giving men the opportunity to buy seforim to learn at home at their own leisure.
The Ohr Hatorah Library, established 14 years ago by Rabbi Levi Liberow as a resource Library in Stamford Hill, and now located in the basement of the Aguda building, houses 1000’s of Chassidic books and publications relating to the history and culture of the entire spectrum of Chassidic courts, and is open daily for the community to come and peruse its wealth of literature.
It also sports a computer system for viewing the Otzar Hachomo system, where one can view and search through thousands of seforim and print sections if necessary, as well as the Kol Haloshon programme, which is very popular with local yeshiva bochurim.
The Library distributes free publications on Chassidic thoughts on the parsha to local shuls, and regularly holds social events celebrating dates on the Chassidic calendar, featuring expert speakers.
A new project since Tishrei has been a shiur given every Friday night by Rabbi Liberow (based on the Alter Rebbe’s talks Torah Ohr on Likutei Torah).
