The city of Columbia, a college town located between St. Louis and Kansas City, hosted what was probably its first traditional upshernish.
The event was hosted by Shluchim Avraham and Channy Lapine of Chabad of Missouri University and Mid-Missouri, for their son Mendel.
Mendel was barely eight months old when the Lapine family settled down in the area known as “Little Dixie.”
Shluchim from all over the Kansas-Missouri region gathered with their families at the Chabad Center of Mizzou to mark the celebration.
The event was honored by the presence of Rabbi Shalom Ber Wineberg, Head Shliach of Kansas and Missouri, Rabbi Mendy Wineberg of Chabad House Center of Kansas City, Rabbi Zalman Tiechtel at the University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kansas, Rabbi Avi Rubenfeld from Chabad of Chesterfield (St. Louis) Missouri, as well as other honored guests, families, and friends from as far away as Brooklyn.

In the mid 80’s friends of ours lived there for collage after they got married and they made a beautiful “traditional” upsherenish that we attended….. And I would bet that that was not the first one as well… Hatzlacha~!
