The Jewish community of Perm hosted Lev Leviev, the President of the Federation of Jewish Communities of the CIS, who came to the city for the opening of one of his businesses – the Moscow Jewelry Factory, which also involved Governor of Perm Region Oleg Chirkunov.
Since Mr. Leviev is a huge advocate of Jewish tradition, the inaugural ceremony began with Chief Rabbi of Perm Zalman Deutch and Lev Leviev affixing a Mezuzah to the plant’s entrance, accompanied with a traditional blessing.
Upon cutting the ceremonial red ribbon, Rabbi Deutch invited Lev Leviev and Governor Chirkunov to a festive dinner at the JCC, which involved Jewish leaders and patrons active in supporting the development of Jewish life in Perm. The gathering also involved a number of guests, including Boris Milgram, the Minister of Culture and Mass Communications of the Perm Region, Perm Mayor Arkady Katz, and several other leading public figures and businessmen, whose support has been essential to the continuance of community programs.
“The ‘Chabad Lubavitch Ohr Avner’ Jewish Community Center is now standing firm on its own two legs and its foundation continues to grow and strengthen,” commented Lev Leviev, during an interview with the local ‘Kesher’ Jewish newspaper. Both Lev Leviev and the Governor pledged to continue to provide support in the development of the local community.
Lev Leviev thanked Governor Chirkunov for providing assistance with respect to the local Jewish community, as well as commending Perm authorities for their continued support. In turn, the Governor noted that the ‘Chabad Lubavitch Ohr Avner’ Jewish Community Center is one of the strongholds of spirituality in Perm.
