Rabbi Moshe Chaim Levin was sent on Shlichus by the Rebbe to the Kensington neighborhood in Brooklyn over 18 years ago. So why is it that they only held 10 Lag BaOmer Parade to date?
“Simple,” explained Rabbi Yehuda Levin who moved back to work with his parents. “Since we are a 15-20 minute drive from Crown Heights, whenever Lag BaOmer falls out on a Sunday, we take our children there.”
This year was Kensington’s 11th parade and helping with its organization were Rabbi Folly Dubov, bochurim Mendy Singer, Zalmy Levin and others from the Crown Heights Kollel and 770 Yeshiva.
The only parade in all of Brooklyn for non-frum children, Chabad of Kensington attracted a crowd of hundreds of kids, including those learning in public schools throughout Brooklyn who attend the Released Time Program.
The children proudly marched down Ocean Parkway, led by emcee R’ Shimon Rivkin, accompanied by a live band on a float with Shmuel Nussbaum. They crossed over Ocean Parkway and headed to Ave F where the street was closed off for the event.
The seats filled up quickly and the program began with the recital of the 12 pesukim, singing Jewish songs, followed by the highlight of the program- a breathtaking BMX bike stunt show, and ended with a raffle for a helicopter ride.
A special thank you was given to all the 770 Bochurim who helped arrange all the details in making sure the event ran smoothly, to all the Bochurim who came to help out during the program, and as well as to Mr. Yidel Perlstein of Community Board 12 for his assistance.
