Once billed “The World’s Only Kosher Comic Book”, children’s favorite “Mendy and the Golem” is back and available online.
Spearheaded by Yankel Pinson and Shneur Zalman (ShaZaK) Zirkind, and written by Leibel Estrin and drawn by Dovid Sears, these comics feature the offbeat misadventures of Mendy, an Orthodox Jewish boy, and his pet Golem.
Other characters include Mendy’s parents, Rabbi Yaakov and Sara Klein; Mendy’s sister, Rivky; and a host of colorful supporting characters such as Moshe the Mayven; the Lone Stranger and his faithful friend Toronto; Captain Video; Dr. Hardheart and his evil robot Oy Vayder; and Professor Nemo.
First published in 1981 and renewed by Tani Pinson in 2003, the comic’s straddled a variety of genres, including swashbuckling adventures with elements of fantasy, mystery, and science fiction, while retaining slapstick humor offset by dashes of satire and political and cultural commentary.
In honor of the 30 year anniversary of the series, COLlive.com will be posting a weekly strip for its readers as an old time favorite that can be shared with children.
Remaining copies of these comic books are being sold on a first come first serve basis at MendyandtheGolem.com.

Can two zany BTs find a home in the frummer velt? Yes…if you let them produce a brilliant, slightly off-kilter comic book. A round warm of applause also for the rabbinic advisory board that okay’d so much out-of-the-box material!

Dovid was the greatest artist since Davinci–not Leonardo, but his brother Arnold/!
Like Dovid, Arnold Davinci was a nice guy and a great illustrator, but he never became famous.
