Israeli President Isaac Herzog praised the volunteer work of an Israeli-born Lubavitch woman from New York during the annual Independence Day ceremony he hosted at his official residence on Thursday.
The event awarded citations for distinguished service to 120 Israel Defense Forces soldiers and officers. It was attended by IDF Chief of Staff Aviv Kohavi and other current and former senior military figures.
Also participating were activist and philanthropist R’ Dudi Farkash and his wife Chanie of Chabad of Olympia in Monsey, NY, and Ronen and Nirit Peled, renowned event producers who produce the annual Banquets of the Kinus Hashluchim and Kinus Hashluchos, and who are the official producers of the President of Israel’s events.
During the event, a letter of congratulations was presented to Mrs. Farkash, wishing her happy birthday on her upcoming birthday on 5 Iyar.
Herzog’s letter praised her dedicated volunteer work on behalf of new mothers with the Shifra and Puah organization, and noted that she has done great work from her younger days in Kiryat Malachi, Israel to her decades living in New York.
“As you celebrate this milestone 50th birthday, you can certainly be proud of your work and accomplishments…and at the same time set yourself new goals,” the letter read. “As someone whose name is synonymous with the words ‘hachonos orchim,’ be proud of your good heart and continue to do Chesed that is so important to you.
“I wish you many more years of acts of kindness to others, and may you always be on the giving end,” the President’s letter concludes.

Go Dudi and Channie! You are amazing!
