More than a year following the terror attack in the Indian city of Mumbai, Industry, Trade and Labor Minister Binyamin Ben-Eliezer visited Wednesday the Chabad house where six people were murdered, among them Rabbi Gavriel Holtzberg and his wife Rivka.
“We will never give up our right for security; we will not allow Israelis or Jews in Israel and the entire world to be the target of terror attacks,” said the minister.
During an emotional ceremony, Ben Eliezer spoke in front of dozens of Jewish community members and Mumbai residents, who gathered in the renovated Chabad house and said that “they were all murdered simply for being Israelis or Jews.”
“In November 2008 India and Israel crossed paths, and both countries realized that the only response to terror is to hunt it down and protect our democratic values,” he said.
Ben Eliezer noted that “the Chabad house is a place that symbolizes the opposite of terror and hate. It is a place where all Israelis and Jews can gather and enjoy a spirit of unity and communal harmony while feeling at home – away from home.”
“Gavri and Rivka Holzberg, who founded this house six years ago, touched the lives of so many people who traveled through it,” he added.
The minister stressed that “terror does not amount to anything. It’s only fruits are murders for the sake of murders.”
