A special event was held last Sunday evening at the luxurious Baltic Beach Hotel in Jurmala, organized by Chabad Riga and Chabad Jurmala. Over 100 people gathered to honor the 30th anniversary of the Rebbe’s passing, to hear, see, and learn about his teachings.
The evening opened with a moving recitation of a chapter of Psalms by Rabbi Shneur Kot, Shliach in Riga, who hosted the evening with good taste and delivered fascinating and inspiring words about the Rebbe. Afterwards, the audience watched a special video with moving words about the Rebbe from Rabbi Mordechai Glazman, the Head Shliach in Latvia, who was with the Rebbe at the time.
Later in the evening, Rabbi Mendi Zilbershtrom, Chabad Shliach to Jurmala, spoke, followed by a variety of lectures by different people, including a moving personal story of a Jew who was cured of a serious illness after writing a letter to the Rebbe. During the evening, the participants also watched a special video about the Rebbe in honor of his yahrzeit.
Many booths were set up around the venue, where participants could purchase holy books and mezuzot, lay tefillin, sign up for Shabbat dinner, and write a letter to the Rebbe. The most special booth was the letter writing booth, where many poured out their hearts and wrote a personal letter to the Rebbe.
The highlight of the evening was at the end, when a dollar of the Rebbe’s that Rabbi Shneur Kot received from the Rebbe in Tishrei תשנ”א was raffled off and given specially to the participants of the evening to mark the 30th anniversary of the Rebbe’s passing, with divine providence. The lucky winner was a Jew who, just last month, he and his family wholeheartedly helped to make Camp Gan Yisrael in Riga a success.
