Rabbi Dr. Chaim Shine is a professor of law in Israel and a columnist for the Israel Hayom newspaper.
In the late 1970s he joined his uncle, David Shine, then director of El Al in North America, for an audience with the Rebbe.
Concerned with the flight security on El Al’s planes, Mr. Shine brought up the issue with the Rebbe.
The Rebbe’s advice surprised him at first, but taking heed of the Rebbe’s words, he led the effort to implement them at El Al.
VIDEO:
El Al started keeping Shabbos, not because of the Rebbe, but because the entire frum world boycotted El Al and threatened to drive it into bankruptcy if it did not start keeping Shabbos. That fight was led by the Gerrer Rebbe, the Lev Someach.
Maybe you should watch this video again. Where is your derech eretz to express yourself like this???
in the late 70’s and 80’s i didnt see much chasidim traveling anyhow. most people didnt even have cars in israel.
Chabad doesn’t achieve by threat but by brochos and encouraging mitzvos.
It is very clear both in the video and personal account of the El Al family member, what the Rebbe’s input regarding El Al keeping Shabbos was.
It is nice that the Gerer Rebbe also pushed for it, in a different manner.
May everyone keep Shabbos and reap its brochos.
Now you know that besides for a boycott, there were people on the inside pushing for it as well.
