Volunteer EMTs from Hatzolah of Los Angeles came under fire on Shabbos as they were treating a patient near a shul on Ventura Boulevard in Tarzana, California.
Hatzolah was called for a patient suffering a medical episode at the shul when an unrelated fatal shooting at a marijuana dispensary located near the shul occurred.
The shooting suspects, panicking at the sight of emergency vehicles rushing to the area, began firing many rounds at Hatzolah members on the scene.
Thankfully, none of the Hatzolah members were hit, and the suspects fled the scene.
A 30-year-old was subsequently found by LAPD officers shot to death at the dispensary. Police are now searching for 6 suspects and are requesting assistance from the public.
“All of a sudden we hear like five gunshots, bam! bam! bam! bam! And we all just started running,” a witness who was in the shul at the time, told ABC7 Los Angeles.
“The shooting took place towards the end of the kiddush, when there were only about 30 people left inside the Shul,” a member of the Shul told COLlive.com.
“Thank G-d everyone in our Shul was inside at the time due to a medical emergency of one of the members of the Shul,” he said. “Due to the commotion everyone came inside and at the same time, the shooting took place right in our backyard. Thank G-d everybody was inside at the time. Our Rabbi ran outside right away to make sure that everyone was safe,” he said.
First, B”H nobody was injured.
If you haven’t already, start the discussion at your Shul. What’s the plan if R”L somebody starts shooting? This is a perfect example of how “routine crime” could C”V spill over into a Shul.
What if the gunmen came inside? Was anybody in the Shul armed so at least there’s even a chance of a fighting chance?
Not suggesting everyone should run around with guns on display but “these days” (been years now) there needs to be at least one person armed–WHO PRACTICES REGULARLY AND HAS HAD TRAINING–in every Shul.
Except the one shot to death at the dispensary.
Yes the rabbi had a gun
And I was there thus was not against the shul or hatzlah this was NOT related to anything Jewish
I know the Rabbi very well and he doesn’t just have a gun but is highly trained in using it.
