FC Hosts Winter Camp

Last week, the Friendship Circle of Brooklyn hosted its second annual Winter Camp for children with special needs in Brooklyn. The bright red color of the camp T-shirts worn by over 50 campers and counselors reflected the fun and exciting experience of Winter Camp.

Sunday, the first day of a week-long day camp, began with a grand trip to the Long Island Children’s Museum, where the camp enjoyed a range of entertaining educational exhibits and dancing disco music rooms. The children could not wait to come back on Monday for a trip to Fun Time America. The rides, games, slides, and arcades only extended the already wide smiles on the camper’s faces.

Says Friendship Circle Director, Mrs. Chayle Eckhaus, “Thanks to our wonderful and dedicated volunteers, what can be could have been a week of frustration for a Friendship Circle family was been transformed into a week of relaxation and pleasure. The memories and friendships that were formed certainly have impacted the lives of the entire Friendship Circle family.”

Based at the JCM, children from Boro Park and Flatbush joined the spirited camp fun as well. With a trip to the Fire Zone in Manhattan, a fabulous game show from Benny Hershkowitz, a unique experience at Sony Wonders, and Pizza making, the fun never seemed to end.

The volunteers from Bais Rivka, Bnos Menachem, and Shulamith High Schools were the source of the camp’s energy, by giving over their time and love to the Friendship Circle. “It was such a pleasure working with girls who are so dedicated to changing children’s lives,” says Program Coordinator Chaya Chein.

The positive feedback from FC parents has been non-stop. A grateful parent, Mrs. Miriam Elisheva Segal, told FC staff how, “As always they had a blast, and my kids talked about it for days afterwards.” With great dedication and care, Friendship Circle has completed another tremendously successful program continuing the legacy of their motto, “Making a Difference.”
