The Lakewood Shatnez Laboratory which periodically sends out notices on the matter, addressed Decorative Trimmings this past week.
Shatnez is the prohibition in halacha derived from the Torah that prohibits the wearing of a fabric containing both wool and linen.
The decorative trim of the Castle Starr lady’s wool sweater shown in the picture above contains linen. Two rows of black shiny black plastic beads were wrapped around a beige linen cord.
The lesson is: All wool garments must be tested for the presence of linen and all trimmings must be tested for the presence of linen.
