A division at the new Colel Chabad Multiple Sclerosis Campus in Jerusalem will be dedicated to developing and implementing cutting-edge technologies to enhance the quality of life of people with debilitating illnesses.
The new wing will be named for Reb Moshe Dovid Davidson, a Jewish philanthropist of Boro Park and Crown Heights who passed away two months ago.
George Davidson’s career on Wall Street started humbly in Dean Witter’s mailroom as an IBM punched-card clerk. Later, he was afforded the opportunity to work at MIT on one of the world’s first supercomputers. He developed a groundbreaking new back-office platform to allow highly specialized financial businesses get custom solutions for all their precise needs.
Always excited in the power of turning something complex into something simple, he worked on emerging technologies, feeling challenged to implement them at the highest levels of functionality. His passion to use technology to transform industries in profound and meaningful ways matched his passion in philanthropy, in helping others.
For many decades, as his company was thriving, so was his generosity. Known as a Baal Tzedakah, contributing to many diverse causes, he was highly respected in many different communities including Chabad.
“Just as he left his mark on technologies, so did he leave his mark on the Jewish community, the land of Israel and much more,” said Rabbi Sholom Duchman, Executive Director of Colel Chabad.
“His legacy is being continued through his children,” he added. “He lived with technology, and will be remembered by it, using it to make life easier for those with challenges.”
The announcement about the George Davidson Center for Life Enhancing was made at the recent Colel Chabad Awards Dinner in New York City.
