The cityandstateny.com website has published its annual list of the most influential individuals in Brooklyn, which includes a Crown Heights community official.
City & State’s Brooklyn Power 100 list recognizes not only the borough’s leading politicians, but also the business and nonprofit executives, real estate developers, advocates, activists, and others who live and work in Brooklyn.
Rabbi Eli Cohen, Executive Director, the Jewish Community Council of Crown Heights, is number 58 on the list.
Here is what they wrote:
At the site of one of New York City’s most notorious riots three decades ago, Eli Cohen has sought to get Crown Heights’s Orthodox Jewish and Afro Caribbean communities to learn more about each other and live in peace. Cohen has teamed up with activist Geoffrey Davis to meet with 1,000 students at a half-dozen schools to discuss gentrification, bullying and depression. He also holds a Crown Heights festival at the end of August with Caribbean and Orthodox entertainment acts.
