Chabad Girls Academy of Crown Heights invites women and girls to a special evening, dedicating a classroom in memory of Chayala Levy obm.
Chaya Moussia Levy was a fun-loving and kind-hearted young girl, one of 12 children of Rabbi Moshe and Rechil Levy of London, England.
Tragically she passed away in her prime at the age of 17 in December of 1999 while home on vacation from Bais Rivkah Seminary of France.
“Chayala was a very positive girl, full of life and a friend to all, always caring and looking out for the well being of others,” her friend Shainy Evers, who grew up together with her as next door neighbors and close friends, says.
In honor of Chayala’s 16th yartzeit, her friends invite women and girls from the community to join as they pay tribute to Chayala’s life and aspire to continue her legacy.
A beautiful, inspiring evening is planned, where Chayala’s family and friends and the students of Chabad Girls Academy will share memories and hear some of the beautiful songs she sang. A classroom will be dedicated to Chayala, and the students of CGA have prepared a special program to mark this meaningful occasion.
“As we go about our busy lives we rarely take the time to forge new relationships and get to know the people who are right here with us today. This is a lesson I learned from Chayala,” says Evers. “We often miss the people who are no longer with us. But their legacy is something precious that we can continue to emulate and learn from. I am excited to see her values being lived on through education in a way that she would have loved.”
Chayala was an incredibly lively and positive person. She never complained and always looked at her challenges as G-d’s unique plan for her. Chayala had an amazing moral compass and was a kind and compassionate person. She discussed how she wanted to raise her future children and the values she wished to impart.
Being close to Chayala, her family and friends experienced so much that life has to offer. She always pushed boundaries in such a remarkable way. She was never afraid of challenge and with her amazing passion for life, she encouraged others to be unafraid to join her. Together, she and her family and friends created many wonderful memories.
Singing was one of her favorite past times. Chayala had an incredibly sweet and powerful voice and when she sang everyone loved to listen. It was as if she lived through her music as it seemed to transport her to a higher realm, where she connected to something deeper. Finding beauty in every moment and bringing a sense of fun and joy to life was her essence. She laughed through her challenges and uplifted her friends and family in the process.
“Today when I think about her,” says Evers, “I remember her energy and I miss her tremendously. I want her legacy to inspire all of us to take a look around at whoever we are connected with and form a deeper bond with them. And for those who we have not yet made a connection with, we must take the time to get to know them. These are the best gifts of life. Every moment is precious and it must be treasured.”
“As we dedicate this classroom to Chayala, we hope to be able to inspire our students to live with vibrancy, integrity and follow in her path,” Evers said.
