Thursday night, 7 Teves – December 24, is known in the Chassidic community as “Nitle Nacht” and the custom is not to learn Torah till midnight.
Kabbalisticly, the reason is, as is known from the the 5th Lubavitcher Rebbe so as to not be “adding Chayus” spiritual life and strenth to ‘that person’ and his followers.
The Rebbe says in a Sicha that we shouldn’t “waste our time” but involve ourselves in something like chess which exercises the mind or any other chore that needs to be done.
In the Yeshiva Centre – Chabad Headquarters of NSW, Sydney, a challenge was made to the broader community to try their skill at chess against an Australian Chess champion, Tzvi (Peter) Rona who offered to take on up to 30 players.
The conditions to play were, to bring at least $2 minimum for Tzedakah, a chess set and a smile.
15 serious young (and old) men took up the challenge, including a couple of our Talmidim Hashluchim.

Keep up the great work! A former Talmid…
My dad is awesome, i knew he’d win them all, he always does!
he didn’t loose even one!!!
Gotta love your beard … you almost look like Reb Yoel.
Keep it up!
He won most of them except Yossi David who tied a draw. Dovy Vogel was BRILLIANT and played a very good game, only because of a small mistake he lost to Mr. Rona, Shkoyach!
how many games did he win? (if any)
