Weeks before summer vacation begins, the phones are ringing off the hook in the offices of Chabad of New Hampshire.
Located an hour and a half from the vacation hot spots in upstate New Hampshire, Chabad Shliach Rabbi Levi Krinsky has taken hundreds of inquiries, arranging countless Minyanim and various accommodations.
New Hampshire’s White Mountains about a seven hour ride from the metro New York area, has become quite the tourist haven for hundreds of Jewish families in the NY tristate area. They come for the mountain climbing, cave crawling, hiking the Flume Gorge, driving up Mt. Washington and to see some breath-taking views. Vacationers reach out to Chabad for information on time and places for minyanim, availability of kosher food, and even looking for discount tickets to tourist sites.
For the second year, the local Price Chopper has worked with Rabbi Krinsky to accommodate the guests with a selection of glatt and cholov yisroel food products. During the peak season of the summer, Rabbi Krinsky arranged for Rabbi Shmuel Pewzner and Rabbi Mendy Wolf and their families of New York to each spend time in Lincoln as a scholar-in-residence.
In addition, this year, Chabad, with the help of other New England Shluchim, made available as many as seven Sifrei Torah in various locations across Lincoln.
Rabbi Krinsky recalls hearing from the legendary chosid and shliach, Rabbi Leibel Raskin of blessed memory from Morocco, that a shliach responsibility to his community is like a Mezuzah on a house. A mezuzah provides security for everything in the house, so is it true with a shliach, who provides and necessitates any need his community might need. So when a Jew knocks on the door and needs to learn alef beis one teaches him alef beis, and when travelers who are visiting require a minyan one provides a minyan.
Rabbi Krinsky is grateful for the support and assistance of Mr. and Mrs. Barry and Annette Weissman, who reside in Lincoln year round, for helping to organize the logistics and being the local go-to for the many guests. He also thanks the Pewzner and Wolf families for making this a part of their summer.
“I must confess the thrill I experienced seeing the hotel’s large banquet hall packed with mispallilim from different walks of life, making use of the hundreds of seforim available to get in some studying with their children during their summer break,” Rabbi Krinsky said “Every year, we try to evaluate and improve this peulah to be as accommodating as possible.
I used to go to summer camp in Bridgton, Maine and spent lots of time in North Conway and we still vacation as a family there now. Great to know we have options now. Yasher Koach!!
